Aftercare is important for any treatment, but sometimes there are things you might forget to ask like “can I drink alcohol after Botox?”. While we understand the need for a relaxing drink at the end of the day, we recommend avoiding alcohol for the first 24 hours following your botulinum treatment. Here’s why it matters and some other frequently asked questions about Botox aftercare.
Botox is a neurotoxin injection used to treat fine lines and wrinkles. It is commonly used to treat crow’s feet, forehead lines, bunny lines, eyebrows and more.
Can I Drink Alcohol After Botox?
We recommend avoiding alcohol for at least 24 hours after treatment. Alcohol can thin your blood which may lead to an increase in bruising at your injection sites. If you must drink alcohol, limit your intake, and make sure you drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
Can I Exercise After Botox?
Typically, we ask patients to avoid strenuous activities or exercise for 24 hours after Botox injections. After that, you can slowly get back to your routine.
Can I Wear Makeup After Botox?
Not during the first 24 hours. This allows the injection sites to heal properly without adding irritants that could cause discomfort or inflammation. The next day, you can add makeup but do not rub or press on the injection sites. This can cause your Botox to spread out of the targeted area.
Serious side effects after Botox injections are rare but there is always some risk associated with any procedure. If you notice unusual pain, swelling, or extreme discomfort, you should contact your Botox injector immediately. They can assess your condition and determine if you need further treatment.
